We would like to take a moment to recognize the ladies at UNC’s Alpha Chi Omega sorority for their ongoing support of FVPC. Alpha Chi Omega has been very involved with FVPC for the past two years, though their firm commitment to domestic violence prevention goes back much further. They were key actors in last year’s Lunafest fundraiser and are currently gearing up for their annual AXO and ATO Golf Tournament, the proceeds of which will go to FVPC.

Aside from helping with general fundraising efforts for the center, AXO shows their commitment to ending domestic violence by helping with “the little things.” Some recent ways Alpha Chis have helped out at FVPC are:

  • They have raised money to purchase gas cards for domestic violence victims.
  • They make weekly donations of healthy snacks for the children of women attending support groups here at FVPC.
  • Many AXOs have stepped up as daytime hotline volunteers and/or childcare volunteers.

Callie Uffman, the VP of Philanthropy for AXO, told us the following aboutwhat it means to work with us on the issue of DV, “at the national and local levels, Alpha Chi Omega is devoted to helping our women address the tragedy of domestic violence. Because women are affected by this issue that has personally affected some of our members and their families, we’ve made this our national philanthropy since 1992. By working with the FVPC, we are able to educate our members about the problem of domestic violence and support an organization that can be transformational in women’s lives. Since domestic violence occurs at an individual level, by educating our members we hope to empower our women to recognize and avoid situations of domestic violence and encourage other women to do the same.”

We are grateful. Thanks Alpha Chi Omega!
