Take Back the Night is an event sponsored by Project Dinah, a student-led group promoting women's issues at UNC-CH
On Thursday, November 11th at 7pm in the Pit (rain location: Bingham 301) on UNC-CH Campus, Project Dinah will have its annual Take Back The Night Rally and March.
An international campaign dating back to 1976, the Take Back the Night event at UNC will invite participants to help take a stand against fear and violence, and promotes women’s right to move freely in their communities at all hours, day and night, without fear of harassment and sexual assault.
The keynote speaker for the event, Chaitra Shenoy, will deliver a call to action. Ms. Shenoy is a Sexual Assault Staff Attorney for WEAVE (Women Empowered Against Violence) and is the co-founder of Holla Back DC.
Finally, the Rally leads into a March around campus where everyone in
attendance will walk past the major sights and streets of the
University, by fraternity houses, classroom buildings, down Franklin
Street and into the Pit. Marchers are encouraged to loudly, vocally and peacefully protest against violence as they walk, drawing those who see and hear them into greater awareness of the issue.
